Good to see that U.S. manufacturing, which I've covered in one form or another since the mid-1990s, is getting some encouraging coverage at its comeback, such as this recent article in Bloomberg Businessweek.
The story notes that according to a study by Boston Consulting Group, part of the reason for the U.S. comeback is that wages are increasing in China. Good article, though if it were longer, perhaps more could have been reported about the type of product innovation and technology innovation that U.S. manufacturers are so good at. For example, last September, I wrote an article in Insight on Manufacturing about how manufacturers in Wisconsin are using digital fabrication--which is roughly akin to quickly layering up an actual part from a digital file in the same way an ink jet printer layers ink onto a page to create a printed document--to rapidly make parts or prototypes. This is the sort of technology that gives U.S. manufacturers an edge when it comes to producing complex parts and assemblies in a very rapid turnaround time from concept to delivery.
